Overdid it a bit today but I’ve been doing pretty well so I don’t mind too much. One of the big problems of this is that sometimes I can not stop thinking about eating. I think it might have been a craving set on by the extra carbs from the Mocha I drank but all night long I was starving and couldn’t stop thinking about diving into the fridge and scarfing down the last bit of burrito and whatever else might be waiting for me. The long dark night of the diet.

That honestly looks like quite a bit, but it’s significantly less than what i usually eat- missing are a bowl of cereal, whole portions and probably a hell of a lot more of those pretzels and the Pound Plus
I’ve decided to try to change my eating habits. Nothing big, just a real emphasis on portion control. Serving size or less of the food I like, 1/4 to 1/2 portion of food when I go out to eat, ask for a to-go container when I get my dinner and put the part I’m not eating away.
Now here’s the big thing:
I inhale food. Everyone in my family eats as quickly as possible. I don’t know if this is learned or if it grew out of our urge to get away from the dinner table as soon as we were finished, but we eat really really fast. And we also clear our plates. And then we clear the plates of whoever hasn’t cleared theirs. It’s disgusting.
So from now on, no more gulping full glasses of liquid refresh, and no more big bites. I’m sipping, taking small bites, and most importantly taking my time. Even if I have to think about nothing but eating slowly while I’m eating, that is what I’m going to try to do. We ate at Panera yesterday and instead of eating my whole sandwich in five minutes I ate half of it and alternated my bites with sips of water. I was completely full for the afternoon and had no urge to snack.
This is day three.
